Committee approves ThinkGuard backup contract after members say purchase was prompted by recent cyber incident

The DuPage County Finance Committee approved a contract purchase order to ThinkGuard on June 10 to provide backup and recovery services for the sheriff's office, a procurement members said was prompted by a recent county cybersecurity incident.
Member Evans moved the contract; Member Zay seconded. The contract covers backup and recovery services from June 10, 2025, through Nov. 30, 2027, with a total amount not to exceed $368,853.50, according to the procurement item presented to the committee.
During discussion, Member Yu said he had asked questions in the Judicial & Public Safety committee and spoke at length afterward with Jason Blumenthal (county staff) to understand the item. “I think this is obviously something in reaction to the cybersecurity incident,” Member Yu said, adding he hoped the county would be more proactive going forward and that “there would be continued communication and further collaboration with our IT, sheriff's office and all the elected officials' offices.”
Committee members voted in favor; the motion carried.
The ThinkGuard contract follows a countywide series of IT and evidence-management procurements approved at the meeting, including a contract for audiovisual evidence management software for the public defender's office and other IT purchases. The committee discussion emphasized the need for an enterprise approach to backups and coordination across elected offices.
The contract will proceed through normal procurement and contracting processes; staff did not report a separate vote tally on individual names in the transcript.
