DuPage County proclaims June 2025 LGBTQ Bridal Month, recognizes Youth Outlook and Elmhurst Pride Collective

DuPage County Chair Deborah A. Conroy proclaimed June 2025 as LGBTQ Bridal Month at the county board meeting on June 10, 2025, and invited representatives from Elmhurst Pride Collective and Youth Outlook to the podium to accept the proclamation and speak.
The proclamation recognized the county’s commitment to supporting the visibility, dignity and equality of LGBTQ residents, referenced the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, and commended local organizations for advocacy and community education.
Carolyn Walskog, director of programs at Youth Outlook, told the board Youth Outlook provides drop-in centers, caregiver support, community education and a health-and-wellness navigation program. “We often hear, now more than ever, the LGBTQ community needs this message of support,” Walskog said. She urged continued local efforts, saying, “We need to be fighting to ensure we still collect data about LGBTQ people, that we fund affirming housing and health care, and we fight to keep our HIV funding in our community.”
Elmhurst Pride Collective and Youth Outlook representatives were thanked by board members and the proclamation was approved by voice vote. Chair Conroy read the proclamation’s findings that the county stands “in solidarity with our LGBTQ plus residents, employees, and community partners, and reaffirms our commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.”
Why it matters: The proclamation is a public acknowledgment of county support for LGBTQ residents and a ceremonial recognition of local service organizations that provide youth support and community education.
