In a city manager’s report staff said the city started roughly a year ago with about 11 active capital projects; four have been completed, two are nearing completion and three are expected to be finished by the end of the year. “When we started probably a year ish ago, we had 11 projects. Of those, 4 of them have been completed,” a staff presenter reported.
Staff provided details on the Oregon Street work, describing a multi‑phase approach. Justin (city staff) explained the project’s subphases and said crews advanced work on the intersection tie‑in to avoid an extended closure. He told commissioners that because the city added needed work for a pool water line the contract completion date was extended 30 days and that staff now expects substantial completion “sometime in September as a substantial completion date based off a contract.” The bridge project discussed in the update is scheduled to be completed and opened around July 19; staff said a ribbon cutting will be held at 2 p.m.
Commissioners pressed staff about safe public access to the recreation center during active construction. Stephanie (city staff) said the project contract includes traffic‑control and pedestrian‑access plans and that staff will coordinate with the recreation center and contractors to post signage and direct patrons to safe parking and entrances. “We will make sure to let the rec center know so that they’re able to give it to their constituents. We'll blast it out on Facebook,” Stephanie said, describing planned public communication including maps or photo guidance for patrons.
Staff also addressed business access and parking concerns in the construction area, noting temporary signage, alternate access routes and arrangements to relocate the recreation center’s vans and maintain deliveries for adjacent businesses. Justin said public‑works crews have adjusted signage and that problem locations should reopen in the coming days as patching and cleanup are completed.
On other items, staff said the water rate study will be placed on the June 27 agenda and will be provided to commissioners in advance. Commissioner announcements included a community cleanup for District 5 set for Saturday, July 19, from 7 a.m. to noon with drop‑off locations and shredding at Dudley School.
