The Mission Economic Development Corporation updated the City Council on efforts to attract commercial investment and support entrepreneurs, including last week’s commercial and investment tour and an upcoming seed funding competition.
The EDC representative reported the tour — held with the RGB Partnership — brought developers, realtors, brokers and entrepreneurs from across the Rio Grande Valley to view new developments, especially growth on Mission’s south side. The tour aimed to showcase local projects to people who influence where businesses locate.
The EDC also announced a seed funding competition featuring 13 entrepreneurs. Prizes are set at $25,000 for first place, $15,000 for second place and $10,000 for third place. The event will be held Friday at 3 p.m. and will be streamed live on Facebook; the EDC has posted introductory videos to highlight the participants ahead of the competition.
The MEDC representative said the organization also coordinated outreach with the McAllen EDC and the Greater McAllen Association of Realtors to discuss housing and job trends that could affect future investment in Mission.
Council members thanked the EDC for its outreach and invited residents to view the seed pitch event online if they cannot attend in person.
