Clallam County staff told the Parks Advisory Board on June 3 that the county has executed a professional services agreement to update its parks master plan, with the consultant team scheduled to start July 1.
Staff said the selected team — planners with experience in recreation planning — was awarded a roughly $147,000 contract after a competitive selection process. The contract timeline published for the project was extended by two months as a contingency, moving the planned end date beyond the original August 2026 target to allow additional time if needed.
Staff also said the consultant will use the county's existing park survey data, which saved the county money, and that outreach in the contract was expanded from three public meetings to five. The added outreach will include meetings intended to serve Clallam Bay, Neah Bay and the Miller Peninsula/Panorama Vista community.
Board members asked about scheduling a kickoff meeting and whether the consultant could present to the full board; staff said a kickoff could be scheduled as soon as the contract is finalized and signatory steps are complete and that staff will coordinate tentative dates with the board.
Staff noted the county is deploying traffic counters on a rotating schedule to collect seasonal park use data over the coming year; the counts will be moved quarterly so each site is sampled across the seasons. The data will be used to inform master-plan recommendations tied to operations and capital needs.
The consultant award and expanded outreach set the project timeline in motion; staff said they will notify the board when the consultant signs the agreement and will schedule a public kickoff and additional board briefings.
