The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a conceptual plan June 10 for Shalimar Bridge Park, a recently purchased county-owned property in the Town of Shalimar.
Parks staff presented a concept that includes parking, restrooms, pavilions, a seawall and riprap, a fishing pier, docks and boat parking. Staff said permitting is likely to take roughly 12 to 14 months and that, if permitting proceeds on schedule, county staff hope to begin construction the following year.
Commissioners praised the design, suggested planning for security measures and technology to protect docks and parking, and asked staff to explore small retail or a tackle shop near restrooms and pavilions to support anglers. Commissioner Kessel moved approval and commissioners voted unanimously.
What happens next: Staff will advance design and permitting, refine site amenities and explore the retail footprint and security options discussed at the meeting prior to final design and construction.
