Patrick County OKs $2,800 to provide free well-water testing for 40 residents

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors approved moving $2,800 of unspent extension agency funds into fiscal year 2026 to provide free well-water testing for county residents.
Terry Alt, unit coordinator and family and consumer sciences extension agent, told the board the funds would cover testing for 40 residents and explained the county’s testing arrangement with a Blacksburg laboratory. Alt said the testing capacity in Blacksburg is shared with Carroll and Grayson counties and that the combined capacity is about 100 tests on a single testing day. George Stovall, the extension’s newly hired A&R agent, was introduced at the meeting.
A motion to allocate $2,800 carried with votes recorded as Mr. Marshall: Aye; Mr. Kendrick: Aye; Mr. Perry: Aye; Mr. Overby: Aye; and the chair voting Aye. Alt said the county’s annual testing program typically averages 30 to 40 tests and that the program helps residents, especially those buying homes, confirm water quality.
