Patrick County schedules July 14 public hearing on local ordinance to allow state DSS bonuses

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors on an undisclosed meeting date voted to schedule a public hearing for July 14 to consider a local ordinance permitting the county to accept and pass through a one-time state-supported bonus for Department of Social Services employees.
A staff member told the board the bonus is 1.5% of base salary for full-time DSS employees, effective July 21, 2025, and that the county must adopt a local ordinance to receive the funds as required by “section 15.2, 15 oh 8 of the Code of Virginia.” The staff member said the funds are a pass-through from the state and “does not authorize any new or unbudgeted expenditures.”
Board members voted in favor of scheduling the public hearing. The motion carried with votes recorded as Mr. Marshall: Aye; Mr. Kendrick: Aye; Mr. Perry: Aye; Mr. Overby: Aye; and the chair voting Aye.
The public hearing will allow residents to comment before the board considers final adoption of the ordinance. The staff member described the item as meeting a state statutory requirement tied to the General Assembly’s fiscal year 2026 budget and said the county’s role is administrative — receiving and distributing the state payment to eligible DSS employees.
