Development Services committee renews multiple facilities contracts and adopts dual-vendor janitorial procurement approach

Columbia County’s development and planning services committee on June 10 approved renewal recommendations and procurement changes for several facilities and operations contracts.
The committee voted to renew the elevator maintenance agreement with Otis Elevator Company for another year and to continue annual renewals for pest control through Northwest Exterminating and refuse services with Coastal Waste and Recycling of Georgia. The committee also recommended another one-year renewal with AECOM for fire and intrusion monitoring services; staff said monitoring costs did not increase in this renewal.
For janitorial supplies, procurement and facilities staff reported rising costs and said it was difficult to compare bids directly. Staff proposed awarding interdependent contractor agreements to two vendors — Southeastern Paper and CAMO Manufacturing — using percentage-off pricing on specific categories of items so each vendor could offer deeper discounts on items they supply most efficiently. The committee recommended both agreements to obtain best practical pricing.
All items were moved to consent for final approval. Staff said contract terms and pricing will be revisited when large new buildings come on line and square footage increases operating needs.
