Columbia County internal services staff presented the county’s annual property and liability insurance renewal with the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) for fiscal year 2026 on June 10.
Staff told the committee the county is maintaining the same coverage limits but that net contribution will increase 23.38% compared with the current fiscal year. The staff breakdown attributed roughly 5% of the increase to ACCG’s overall rate change and about 18.38% to Columbia County’s increased exposures — more payroll, additional buildings and added vehicles. The county’s net contribution for the upcoming year was presented as $1,014,533. Staff also reported the county satisfied safety discount requirements, receiving a $45,448 credit.
Commissioners noted internal representation on ACCG’s board and discussed the upward trend in premiums; staff recommended approval and the renewal was moved to consent for the full commission agenda.
