Replacement work under way at Slidemeadow; committee approves CAM HVAC requisition

The Permanent Public Building Committee received updates and approved payments for HVAC work at Slidemeadow and related schools on June 9.
Project staff reported a kickoff meeting was held and initial work is underway in the boiler room. An air‑source heat pump has been installed outdoors and crews will begin major lifts and roof work after schools close for the summer; the contractor planned to go “full bore” starting the Tuesday after the meeting. Staff said the contractor had been working after school hours to minimize disruption.
The committee approved a requisition for payment to CAM HVAC & Construction in the amount of $206,596.50 for general‑contract work on the RTO replacement project. Committee members also noted summer programs had been told in advance to avoid scheduling that would conflict with construction; some administrative staff may work remotely or be temporarily reassigned while work removes air conditioning in parts of buildings during construction.
Why it matters: the RTO replacement and related HVAC upgrades require construction work inside occupied school properties and therefore impact summer schedules, staff plans and access. Staff said coordination was in place to avoid overlapping with summer programs and to provide alternate work spaces when necessary.
No additional contract changes were approved at the June 9 meeting beyond the requisition vote; staff will monitor progress as heavy work begins next week.
