Mister Desi, the district’s facilities and transportation representative, told the Marple Newtown School Board’s committee meeting on June 10 that a minor water-main break occurred at Russell Elementary on the night of May 11 and damaged portions of the building.
“We are working as administrative team, with the insurance company to do some remediation of some damage areas that were affected by this water main break,” Mister Desi said. He said he is coordinating with Dr. Kane and the business administrator and plans to present budget numbers at the next voting meeting for renovations funded from capital reserve.
The update matters because it signals a planned capital request and an expected reimbursement path: Desi said the district would initially pay for renovations from the capital reserve and then work with the insurance company “to have those funds reimbursed.” The committee transcript records the item as an update; no formal vote was recorded during the committee discussion.
Desi asked whether there were any questions and said he would present figures at the voting meeting after confirming insurance estimates. The committee did not provide further direction or a recorded vote in the transcript; the item was presented as a forthcoming agenda item for board action.
Next steps: Facilities staff will finalize repair estimates and present a formal budget request at the next voting meeting, and the business office will coordinate insurance reimbursement if the board approves use of capital reserve funds.
