The Village Board approved several special events and related licenses at Monday’s meeting.
Heartland Children’s Business Fair: The board approved a special event application for the Heartland Children’s Business Fair to be held at Nixon Park in August (date to be finalized, organizer indicated a preference for Aug. 14). Chloe (event organizer, on Zoom) described the event as a children’s market for ages 6–14, with booth‑based sales of handmade goods and supervised money‑handling. The board approved the event with the condition that Park Board and staff confirm a final date and logistics; staff and trustees discussed staging, vendor drop‑off areas, and a setup window of 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. as a working plan.
Heartland Chamber Street Dance and temporary alcohol license: Scott Heyerdahl, chairman of the Heartland Chamber of Commerce, presented the Chamber’s application for the Heartland Street Dance scheduled for Aug. 23, 2025. The board approved the Street Dance special event application and separately approved a temporary Class B beer/wine retailer’s license for the Chamber for that event. The board confirmed that the license application listed a designated agent.
Other licenses: The board approved the packet of routine alcohol and related licenses listed in the agenda packet (Class A/B beer and liquor, reserve licenses, Class C wine, etc.) after the police department reported no enforcement concerns or complaints about the listed establishments. The board also approved annual renewals of amusement device, cabaret, cigarette and weights & measures licenses expiring June 30, 2025.
Procedural notes and conditions: The board and staff discussed remaining Park Board review for the Children’s Business Fair and asked staff to coordinate logistics with public works for vendor setup and to ensure dates do not conflict with other park events. Police staff confirmed background checks on listed license agents were completed with no issues reported.
The motions to approve the events and licenses carried in each case with votes recorded as "all in favor; motion carried."
