Waynesville board gets construction update; approves $36.25 million Wright contract after $10.7 million reduction

He also said the district plans to bid a solar-panel project this summer with contract approval requested in September and installation beginning in January 2026 so panels could be producing by summer 2026 to spring 2027. For Waynesville High School, Mr. Harrison said piping is largely complete, rooftop electrical work is in place, and the contractor TMI expects to return the main building to district control around Aug. 1 with the auditorium possibly finished by about Sept. 15; he added the football field and field houses remain available for summer use.
Board members moved to approve change order number 1 with Wright Construction Services for the Liberty Elementary phase 2 work. Administration described the change order as a net reduction of $10,727,078 that lowers the contract sum to $36,247,922; Mr. Harn made the motion and Mr. Ponder seconded. The board approved the change order by voice vote.
Mr. Harrison also told the board that Bloomsdale is slightly ahead on the phase‑1 excavation schedule and that site outreach to nearby residents — including required notifications within a specified radius — has been ongoing to address public concerns. He noted retaining walls along T Highway and additional work near the Waypoint Methodist Church property as visible progress elements. The presentation included a timeline for site grading and a contractor transition plan so Wright could begin footings after Bloomsdale finishes excavation.
The district also reported plans to go out to bid for the solar array in August and bring a contract before the board in September; Mr. Harrison said installation would begin in January 2026. No dollar amount for the solar contract was provided during the meeting.
The board’s action on the Wright Construction change order was recorded as an approved motion; no roll‑call tally was read into the record at the time of voting.
