Fulton board reviews Title I parent‑involvement policy; final version to be presented at reorganization meeting

District staff presented a draft Title I parent‑involvement and family engagement policy the board was asked to review. Staff said the policy and an accompanying outline are required for all schools that receive Title I federal funding and that the goal is to increase family engagement because family involvement correlates with higher student achievement.

“The goal for this is really to, engage families. We know that engage families, leads to higher student achievement,” a presenter said. Staff described work to solicit feedback through a Title I engagement advisory group, district coherence committees, site‑based family engagement meetings and surveys. They said the district tried varied meeting times after parents requested opportunities before and after school drop‑off, and that staff had piloted alternate meeting times and locations to reach families where they are.

Staff said the final policy will be presented for approval at the board’s annual reorganization meeting and that, once approved, the policy will be posted on the district website and shared with families by Sept. 1. The presentation noted examples of outreach ideas under consideration, including sharing information at athletic practices and using auditorium TV screens to display pathway and opportunity information.

Board members did not vote on the policy at this meeting. Staff asked for additional input from the board before the item returns for formal action at the reorganization meeting.
