Court appoints committee to review county retirement plan and employee benefits

Hardin County Commissioners Court on June 10 appointed a seven-member committee to review the county's retirement plan options and other employee benefits and to make recommendations to the court.
Judge McDaniel presented the list of proposed members and asked the court to appoint them for at least one year to evaluate options ahead of the county's next budget cycle. The appointees are Commissioner Ernie Cook; Commissioner Kuykendahl; Kathy Brown, justice of the peace; Sheriff Mark Davis; Matthew Minnick, county attorney; Connie Becton, county clerk; and Melinda Harrington, human resources director.
The court's stated purpose for the committee is to review retirement plan options and other benefits and provide recommendations to the commissioners either ahead of or during the next budget process; the judge noted some changes might be implemented over a two-year period. Commissioner Kuykendahl moved to appoint the panel, Commissioner Cook seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote.
The committee was described as a working group that will report back to the commissioners' court with potential plan changes and cost implications; no budget or authority changes were made at the June 10 meeting beyond the appointments.
