Board approves preschool service agreements to expand voluntary preschool seats

The Davenport Community School District board approved two preschool items: a service agreement with Community Action of Eastern Iowa and a cooperative 28E agreement to support the statewide voluntary preschool program at community partner sites.
Director Hayes moved approval of the preschool service agreement with Community Action of Eastern Iowa. That motion was seconded and approved on a voice vote. Director Beck then moved approval of cooperative 28E agreements for the statewide voluntary preschool program and the board approved that motion by voice vote as well.
Board members and staff emphasized the importance of early childhood programming. In reflections later in the meeting, Kevin (district staff member) said the preschool approvals were significant: “The preschool approvals of both preschool partners is incredible because that's where everything begins for our students,” he said, adding that early learning “may be the most important piece this district does.”
Staff did not present detailed enrollment or funding breakdowns during the discussion; the items were included on the consent agenda and approved without supplemental debate. Trustees noted continued attention to preschool expansion in future work.
