Rossford council seeks county certification for 3.5-mill levy renewal

Rossford City Council on June 9 adopted Resolution 2025-058 asking the county auditor to certify the city's current tax valuation and the revenue that would be generated by a 3.5-mill renewal levy.
Staff explained the 3.5-mill levy has been in place for at least 15 years and that the resolution is a ministerial request to the auditor under Revised Code section 5705.03(B) to obtain current valuation and revenue figures. "This is a renewal. It's not a replacement," staff said. "This does not place it on the ballot. You still have to do that if you see fit the next time."
During the meeting staff urged the council to consider passing the resolution as an emergency so the auditor could provide numbers in time for an August deadline. The council voted to declare the measure an emergency and then adopted the resolution; the transcript records aye votes from council members Echol, Tinney, Owen, Heben, Reynolds and Toth.
Staff said the auditor will return the certified revenue numbers and that a separate council decision would be required to place any levy question before voters.
