Rossford City Council members heard a public works committee report June 9 that included a recommendation to extend the city's trash collection contract with Waste Management for one year and several updates on local street and infrastructure projects.
The recommendation came as the committee noted the current trash contract is set to expire Aug. 31, 2025. Committee member Allison Murray asked council for a reading-only review of the waste-management contract so members could "analyze the numbers" the provider supplied. "I'd simply like to ask council to do a reading only on the waste management contract, please, so that we can analyze the numbers that they've given us," Committee member Allison Murray said.
The public works committee reported additional project updates: Maryland Drive construction began June 4 and is expected to last about six weeks; work at Rinker Court will follow and the committee voted to replace that roadway with concrete rather than asphalt; demolition at Indian Hills mobilized the week before the meeting with demolition beginning June 9; and some sidewalk adjustments on Jennings Street would move east-side sidewalks 1 to 3 feet to the west. The committee also discussed waiving competitive bidding to convert work to a change order for an unnamed Halloween-parade-related project, but that specific contract item was not ready for council action at the meeting.
Other items the committee reported included efforts to pursue additional downtown parking spaces, replacement lighting for City Lot 1 pending APP's installation, design proposals from Tetra Tech for creek access along Longwing, follow-up on uplighting with the township at Bridal, and a plan to replace the stop sign at Glenwood and Beach with a lighted stop sign. The public works department reported ongoing sign repairs at the roundabouts.
The council convened a reading of Ordinance 2025-542, described during the meeting as "an ordinance authorizing the city administrator to extend the current trash contract with Waste Management by 1 year, waiving competitive bidding, and declaring an emergency." That item was presented as a reading; no final adoption vote on Ordinance 2025-542 was recorded in the public portion of the meeting transcript.
The committee recommended a one-year extension of the trash contract and flagged construction sequencing so roadwork at Rinker Court follows Maryland Drive completion (expected mid-July). Council members set the next public works meeting for July 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Annex.
