St. Mary's County planning staff presented a final zoning ordinance Tuesday implementing the commission’s May 13 decision to rezone the Belden property at 20698 Goddard Road in Great Mills from Rural Preservation District (RPD) to Medium Intensity Mixed Use (MXM).
Courtney Jenkins of the Department of Land Use and Growth Management said the May 13 vote directed staff to prepare a final ordinance containing the required findings; staff completed the ordinance and confirmed it was approved for legal sufficiency. Jenkins told commissioners that the findings are based on materials presented by staff, the applicant and the public and on the commissioner's prior discussion and vote on May 13.
No action was taken Tuesday because the commission had already adopted the rezoning earlier; Jenkins noted the prior vote passed 3–2. The presentation before the commissioners was informational, and staff will take the procedural next steps to finalize the ordinance as required by county procedures.
