Routt County signs contract with UCHealth for co-responder clinician to work with sheriff

Routt County commissioners voted to award a contract to Yampa Valley Medical Center (doing business as UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center) to supply a clinician for a sheriff’s office co-responder program.
The Board authorized the chair to sign the professional services agreement and the county manager to electronically sign the Munis contract for an amount not to exceed $162,165, with current budgeted amount listed at $165,000. County staff said UCHealth’s proposal was more comprehensive than the other bid and noted UCHealth’s ability to integrate clinical oversight, electronic health record (Epic) connections and statewide program experience.
County public safety and administrative staff told the board the co-responder model requires local tailoring; they had consulted other UCHealth programs around the state and a consultant who helped design similar programs. Staff said UCHealth was willing to accept the program’s complexities and to onboard a clinician under UCHealth’s employment and record-keeping, which staff said helps protect patient privacy under HIPAA and provides clinical oversight and administrative capacity.
Commissioners were told the clinician will begin onboarding with UCHealth soon and that the county expects the clinician to travel with deputies as part of outreach and response work. The contract was approved unanimously.
