Regional transit formation committee advances district idea; ski area contribution discussed but no final plan

Commissioner Redmond reported May 19 that the regional transit authority (RTA) formation committee has tentatively advanced the idea of putting a district formation question on a future ballot but did not reach consensus to place a district formation measure on the November 2025 ballot.
Redmond said the committee discussed funding mechanisms and whether to ask voters in 2025; the general view was that the group did not yet have enough consensus to move forward but that there is support for creating a district in principle.
He told commissioners that the ski area has reiterated a contribution commitment and that discussions have included whether the ski area’s funds could be used for both standing-up authority costs and short-term enhanced transit services. Redmond said the ski area’s commitment that was discussed in the formation committee amounts to a $1,000,000 contribution year over year, and that negotiators indicated they would not jeopardize previously committed funding while negotiating other mechanisms.
Committee members said operational capacity remains an open question — for example, whether existing transit provider SST could deploy enhanced services immediately — and that the committee plans further meetings in the coming weeks to finalize positions.
No formal board action or authorizing vote to place a measure on the ballot was taken at the work session.
