PUEBLO, Colo. ' Pueblo County commissioners on June 5 approved an agreement with Trane U.S. to supply and install HVAC systems in several county buildings, including the new jail, Department of Human Services facilities and the Government Services Center.
County staff described the deal as favorable because of equipment availability, installation warranty and financing options. County Manager Vina Genesio said the financing is for 15 years at roughly 4.85 percent and that the total cost is about $2.1 million. "It's 15 years 4.85%." Genesio told commissioners.
Staff said the county plans to use HVAC equipment in the new jail and later relocate units to other county buildings with failing systems, such as a DHS building, to avoid wasteful spending. "So it's not, a waste of money by investing into a building that will, you know, potentially be decommissioned," Genesio said, adding the equipment could be reused.
Commissioners asked whether staff had estimated costs to reinstall systems after relocation; Genesio said she would obtain that information. The board approved the agreement by voice vote.
County staff characterized the purchase as within budget and a reasonable path because the county does not install HVAC systems routinely and benefits from vendor warranties and financing.
No detailed financing contract or final payment schedule was read into the record at the meeting; staff committed to provide additional cost details about relocation when available.
