The Historic District Review Board continued its review of the complex rehabilitation proposal for 206 Mackenzie Street and asked the applicant to provide more detailed, window-by-window documentation and interior/exterior photographs before the board—s June 24 meeting.
Senior Planner Duran summarized the application and noted staff found exception criteria met for most items except for the requested increase in height to a primary (north) parapet. Staff provided the board with a historic-architect assessment late in the meeting; several board members said they needed time to analyze the window assessment and elevations and requested clearer linkage between the architect—s report and the proposed changes.
Applicant architect Braden Furry described the property—s extensive, multi-period alterations, the need to stabilize failing stucco and Adobe walls and the client—s goal of preserving the building while adding solar on a new carport structure. He said earlier contractors and unauthorized work had damaged building elements and that some existing windows and framing are compromised. Neighbors and the property owner expressed commitment to full restoration and said they would provide additional documentation of interior damage.
The board voted to continue the item to the June 24 agenda and asked staff and the applicant to provide, no later than the packet deadline (the Wednesday before the Friday posting), the following: a clear window-by-window condition report (repairable vs nonrepairable), interior and exterior photographs of each window and door, and the Matterport (3D) tour or equivalent so members can virtually inspect damaged areas. The board also requested a site visit and asked staff to include the added materials in the June 24 packet.
