Commissioners approve modified timeline for county-manager search; recruiter to lead community engagement

The Board of County Commissioners approved a revised preliminary project schedule on May 20 for the county-manager search led by Peckham & McKinney. Commissioners and staff discussed timelines, community engagement and confidentiality protections for finalist interviews.
Danielle Noble, the recruitment consultant, told the board the proposed process would include an initial public filing period, recruiter screening, virtual interviews of a broad candidate pool, and executive-session interviews by the commissioners for a narrowed set of finalists. Noble recommended an in-person “meet and greet” public forum for the top finalists where members of the public could submit comment cards; she recommended that the commissioners treat that panel’s feedback as advisory rather than determinative of the board’s choice.
“...I would recommend that you be absolutely comfortable with the 3 that you bring to the community panel,” Noble said, explaining confidentiality and the trade-offs of public exposure for finalists. Commissioners agreed to move final board interviews to executive session and to provide a public meet-and-greet event for community feedback, with comment cards collected and summarized for commissioners before any decision.
County staff said the approved schedule could be adjusted later if needed and asked Noble to begin outreach and candidate-profile work with municipal partners. The board approved the timeline as modified and directed staff to post the updated schedule online and resume recruitment steps.
