Planning staff says MassDOT plans pedestrian and bike improvements on Pleasant Street; formal plans not yet released

The Worcester City Planning Division informed the Planning Board on May 21 that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Highway Division has proposed pedestrian and bicycle improvements for Pleasant Street and will work with a consultant to develop plans.
Planning staff said the improvements described in MassDOT’s initial letter would include reconstruction of existing sidewalks, construction of new sidewalks, installation of ADA curb ramps, new pedestrian crossings, bicycle facilities and 5‑foot bike lanes in each direction separated from travel lanes by a buffer. Staff said formal plans have not yet been received and asked the board to provide comments once plans are available.
Olivia Hall stated the planning office has the letter and will share more information with the board when plans arrive. No formal action was taken; the item was a communication to request future feedback once MassDOT submits detailed plans.
