Worcester Accessibility Commission readies July 23 Disability Pride event with mayor, senator and community partners

The Accessibility Advisory Commission presented details of a July 23 Disability Pride Out to Lunch event planned for downtown Worcester, which will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The morning segment will include guest speakers and proclamations; the afternoon will include performances and tabling by city departments and nonprofit organizations that serve people with disabilities.
"Senator Robin Kennedy, who is the chair of joint committee on children, families, and persons with disabilities, will be speaking prior to Mayor Petty, who will be reading the proclamation that our commission wrote for July being disability pride month," Kate McGrath, a commission member involved in event planning, said. McGrath also said the band Flame and an Easterseals martial arts performance will appear and that roughly 11 city departments and about 20 nonprofits will table at the event. The Worcester Business Improvement District will provide promotional support and the Center for Living and Working is a collaborator.
Commissioners asked for volunteers to staff the commission table for shifts during the 11 a.m.–3 p.m. event. McGrath said printed materials will be available in multiple languages and large print and the commission will include a QR code to make materials available electronically. Organizers asked staff to confirm tabling logistics and volunteer time slots by email.
