City says responsibility for degraded pavers at Worcester Common is split; temporary patching planned, larger repairs scheduled after July 1

City staff told the Accessibility Advisory Commission that responsibility for the degraded pavers in and around Worcester Common and the City Hall plazas is split between the Parks Department (the Common and rear plaza) and the Facilities Department (front plaza). Because responsibility is divided, the schedule for repairs depends on coordination between those departments.
"It turns out the jurisdiction for those is actually split between 2 different departments. The common itself and the rear plaza of City Hall are under the jurisdiction of the parks department. And then the area around the front is actually under the jurisdiction of the facilities department," a Transportation official said. Rob Antonelli, assistant commissioner for DPWNP, told staff he plans a project in the coming fiscal year, after July 1, to address the most damaged areas, staff said.
Facilities staff told the commission they will apply a temporary patch to ensure accessible routes remain safe until Parks can do a full replacement as part of the planned project. Commission members and staff said they will follow up to coordinate full replacement where possible so work can be completed together.
