Superintendent highlights summer meals, scholarships and 2,100-plus graduates

Dr. Richard Rogers, superintendent of Houston County schools, told the board on June 10 that the district will offer free meals this summer to all children ages 18 and under and that meals are served daily from 8 a.m. to noon at several cafeterias, with van delivery routes throughout the county.
Rogers said the district will operate six drive-through opportunities for families to pick up multi-day meal packs at Langston Road Primary, Bon Air Bridal and Northside Elementary and that he and Dr. Wiggins plan to ride one of the meal-delivery routes later in the month. He thanked nutrition director Meredith Potter and her team for ensuring students are fed.
Rogers also praised graduation weekend, saying the district “celebrated over 2,100 seniors” and called out the Houston Association of Educational Office Professionals for awarding $1,000 scholarships to 60 seniors, totaling $60,000.
The superintendent framed the district’s theme for the coming year as “together we can” and emphasized support for teachers and staff along with students. Those remarks were part of the superintendent’s official report and informational; no board vote was required.
