The Houston County Board of Education approved the June personnel report, revisions to several job descriptions and the 2026–27 academic calendar at its June 10 meeting.
Dr. Stevens presented the personnel report, which listed certified resignations and retirements (16 total), certified new hires (25) and certified vacancies (17). Classified resignations and retirements numbered 22, classified transfers 23, classified new hires 17 and classified vacancies totaled 149. Mr. Ivory moved to approve the personnel reports; Mr. Crockett seconded and the motion passed 6-0.
The board approved revised job descriptions for classroom teacher, media specialist, school counselor and social worker. Dr. Stevens said the revisions “will clean up language regarding essential duties and align the educational requirements with district professional qualifications.” The board also rescinded earlier separate job descriptions for middle school counselor and high school counselor because the revised description combines them into one role; Ms. Johnson moved to rescind the older descriptions and the motion passed 6-0.
Doctor Brown presented the 2026–27 academic calendar, which the board approved 6-0. Dr. Brown said the calendar is a 180-day schedule with an August start, a winter break in December and a May end to the school year.
Board members did not raise additional questions during the recorded motions; all actions were unanimous.
