Board approves Warner Robins High baseball/softball contract and district athletic upgrades plan

Doctor Brown, a district staff member presenting projects, brought the ICB Construction Group contract for Phase 2 baseball/softball improvements at Warner Robins High; Mr. Ivory moved to approve the agreement for $7,670,100 and Mr. Jackson seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
Board discussion referenced previous debate about distribution of athletic investments. Mr. Ivory said he had voted against a prior Northside High School project because he felt middle schools—particularly Title I middle schools—needed more attention, but that he now supports the districtwide approach and said, “I can honestly say now I feel like all means all.”
The board also approved an amendment with Altman Barrett Architects for Northside Middle School athletic upgrades that will include a rubberized track and a restroom/concession facility; that motion passed 6-0. Dr. Brown described the Northside Middle School project as addressing a “much needed” restroom and concession facility and installing the district’s middle-school rubberized track.
In addition, the board approved Amendment No. 1 with SRJ Architects to revise Exhibit A of a previously approved agreement. The SRJ amendment changes the prior three-phase approach for district baseball/softball improvements into a five-phase plan so each high school will be treated as its own phase and updates the scope and cost language to match current plans. The motion passed unanimously.
All actions were approved by 6-0 votes; board members praised staff for adjusting scopes and sequencing projects so middle schools and high schools will receive planned upgrades over multiple phases.
