Schreckman referenced state legislative action and said the statute “was overwhelmingly passed.” He urged unity and concern for student safety.
An unidentified student speaker said gender in bathrooms had not affected her learning or sense of safety and called the topic “a nonissue” for her and many peers. The board’s discussion acknowledged those differing public perspectives.
Board members emphasized the district’s stated aim to accommodate students who need specific spaces to feel safe. “Our effort will always be to accommodate those who need specific spaces to feel safe,” a trustee statement in the meeting said while presenting the policy.
The motion to adopt board policy 41 50 54 30 passed unanimously with all trustees voting in favor.
The board and staff did not identify additional implementation details at the meeting beyond the adopted policy text; trustees said the policy language follows the statute and noted the district will continue to seek supportive and orderly implementation.
