New US‑89 underpass opens in Case Creek area, Mayors say project advances east–west active‑transportation connections

Why it matters: the underpass reduces a major barrier created by the highway and was presented as a piece of a larger sequence of right‑of‑way acquisitions and future trail connections. Petro noted additional property acquisitions and linkages are still required to complete the full corridor.
No formal vote occurred; the committee’s treatment was ceremonial and informational. Committee staff posted photos of the tunnel and noted the underpass will be one piece in a network of projects local governments are integrating to expand active transportation options.
