Seal Beach council approves Ready Rebound contract to expand police wellness services

The Seal Beach City Council on June 9 approved a contract with Ready Rebound to provide physical and mental wellness services to members of the Seal Beach Police Department, the city’s chief said.

Councilmember Sinegal described the program as designed “to reduce lost workdays due to injury, chronic pain, improve physical and mental resilience, support officers to recovery and safe, integration and reduce long term medical workers' comp.” She asked whether the Police Officers Association and the JPIA supported the program; Chief Henderson replied the city had both the POA’s and JPIA’s support and that staff had reallocated training‑budget funds to prioritize wellness.

Chief Henderson said the program was identified by department personnel who oversee workers’ compensation and employee injury programs. “The ability to deliver these services to our employees quicker and to give them much more of a, an identified, individual care is really, really a win for us,” he said.

The contract will provide access to active police department staff, off‑duty personnel, retired staff and the immediate family members of current employees, council members were told.

Councilmember Sinegal moved to approve the item; after a brief technical issue during the vote the motion carried 5–0.

City staff said the program is expected to reduce long‑term workers’ compensation costs by speeding recovery and supporting return‑to‑work efforts. Implementation details and the program start date were not specified during the council meeting and are to be handled by the police department and city administration.
