Staff updates: zoning district readings delayed; moratorium to remain on commercial, industrial districts

Planning staff told the board that the reading of new zoning district designations was tabled and that the moratorium on commercial and industrial districts remains in force while work continues on residential districts.
"That reading was tabled until the August board of commissioners meeting," said Miss Chelsea, planning staff, and she added the moratorium is "still in place for our commercial and industrial districts." She also stated that the AR districts were not under moratorium and that work on the R (residential) districts remains in committee.
Staff said the moratorium had been scheduled to lift Aug. 11 but that, based on board direction, it was likely to be pushed to the Aug. 19 meeting so the reading of the AR districts can be completed; staff noted planned exceptions such as planned development (PD) zoning may be handled separately. Staff also told members they are considering holding workshops—possible dates mentioned were July 1 and July 15—with exact times to be set.
During the update staff introduced Jennifer Rose as a new Planner I and offered to provide board members with copies of the proposed zoning districts that have been circulated to the board. Staff emphasized commissioners will control final timing: "that's you know, as long as the commissioners are..." (staff comment).
No formal action was taken; staff updates were informational and will inform upcoming hearings and any moratorium lifting schedule.
