Board hears maintenance update; district hires assistant maintenance supervisor and readies school-zone lights

The Jefferson County School Board’s building maintenance committee reported a series of facility needs and staffing changes and said the district is lining up contractors to install flashing school-zone lights before the fall term.
Committee chair Commissioner Hartley told the board the maintenance committee met May 22 to review an extensive list of maintenance needs submitted by each school. The committee plans a follow-up in August to assess summer work completed.
The district is hiring an assistant maintenance supervisor, James Frank, who is expected to start about June 2. Austin Bridgewater will oversee operations along with the new hire, Hartley said.
Hartley also said flashing school-zone lights ordered for the Newmarket location and a site on Old A.J. (a restaurant location referenced in the meeting) have arrived but not yet been installed; the district will solicit a contractor to complete installation and hopes the lights will be operational by the start of school if delivery timing allows.
District staff also described a pre-bid construction-manager walkthrough attended by four companies; officials said they expect contractor proposals in roughly two to three weeks and that the board may schedule an additional meeting in July to interview or select firms.
