The Susquehanna Township School District board voted to approve the district comprehensive plan for 2025–2028 and heard a detailed presentation on the professional development plan and calendar for the 2025–26 school year.
Dr. Andre Martin, assistant superintendent, described the comprehensive plan’s needs-assessment process, steering committee membership, and goals. He said the plan ties to the district’s strategic goals, highlights growth targets the district met (including high school science and middle school ELA and math), and identifies ongoing priorities such as increasing ELA and math proficiency and expanding career exploration opportunities.
Karen Trenders, director of curriculum and research, presented the professional development plan that she described as aligned to the comprehensive plan. Trenders said the PD plan focuses on teacher training, adult-learning principles, building-level needs, and induction for new staff. She said instructional coaches, professional development committees in each building, and partnerships with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit will support delivery.
Trenders reviewed the draft PD calendar and said the district intends to begin induction and some PD activities on July 7, 2025, with the main PD calendar running through March 27, 2026. The plan includes monthly collaborative professional development days, new-teacher orientation, and building-specific PD aligned to student-data priorities (for example, increased writing practice at Sarah Lindemuth and social-emotional learning at the high school).
Board members praised the increased time for teacher collaboration and asked about annual reporting. Administrators said the district will provide yearly data updates tied to the comprehensive plan and track whether the targets are met or exceeded over the three-year cycle. The board approved the comprehensive plan by voice vote; the motion carried with the board chair or presiding officer announcing “Ayes have it.”
