Golf Manor awarded county mini-grant for little free pantries; budget must be revised to meet $1,000 maximum

The committee heard that Hamilton County Public Health has notified Golf Manor that its mini-grant application for little free pantries showed a “strong” application but exceeded the program’s maximum award; the county asked the village to revise its budget and resubmit.

This matters because the village must confirm how many pantries it can build within the grant’s $1,000 maximum, identify who will provide labor and materials, and confirm it can spend the funds by Aug. 1 to secure the award.

Gwen (We Thrive program representative) reported the village applied for $4,000 but that the grant program’s maximum award is $1,000. The county asked the village to clarify how many pantries could be built with the lower award, confirm a revised budget, and resubmit by June 13. Gwen said the county also asked for confirmation that the funds could be spent by Aug. 1.

Gwen said volunteers or carpenters might provide labor and estimated material costs; she referenced two different cost figures during discussion and said she will double-check amounts. “I think the supplies for one is only around $5,600 for all materials,” Gwen said at one point, and later added she needed to “double check the numbers.” The committee acknowledged that if materials per unit are lower — for example $600 — the grant would cover fewer or more units accordingly; staff committed to clarifying the correct per-unit cost before resubmitting.

Gwen thanked Britney Kramer and Eric for their help writing and reviewing the proposal and noted the application deadline and resubmission window are tight.

Direction given: staff will revise the budget showing how many pantries can be built for a $1,000 award, confirm labor plans (volunteers or contractors), and resubmit to Hamilton County Public Health by June 13. No formal council vote on acceptance was recorded during the meeting.
