West York Area SD board debates facilities projects, urges caution to preserve capital reserve

The West York Area School District board discussed a package of facilities projects and the district’s capital budget during its regular meeting, with members arguing for prioritizing urgent safety work while preserving a $3 million capital reserve meant to backstop the district after a planned bond-funded building project.

Board members reviewed three items the facilities staff recommended advancing: resurfacing the Lincoln Way playground, repairing or replacing elevator controls at the high school, and addressing low water pressure on the second floor at Lincoln Way. Facilities staff had recommended a pour-over repair for the playground at a cost of $53,500; a full tear-out and replacement was estimated at roughly $135,000. Board members asked staff to confirm impact-testing and expected lifespan for the pour-over option before final approval.

Directors also discussed an aging elevator whose original control panel has no available replacement parts and must be modernized.
