Water utility reports full compliance in 2024 Consumer Confidence Report

City staff reviewed Port Washington’s 2024 Consumer Confidence Report for the water utility at the Board of Public Works meeting on June 10 and said the utility met DNR and EPA standards for all required tests.
Staff described the plant as a conventional surface-water facility drawing from Lake Michigan and explained treatment steps and typical additives. “Last year, we pumped about 460,000,000 gallons of water into the system, and every sample came back, that met and exceeded, all DNR and EPA standards,” the presenter said. The report also summarizes sampling for regulated contaminants; detections that do not exceed maximum contaminant levels are reported as part of required transparency.
Staff noted lead and copper sampling is on a three-year cycle with the next round in 2026, and that the utility will participate in UCMR 6 testing next year for a broader group of unregulated contaminants. On PFAS, staff said Lake Michigan levels remain very low and roughly comparable to other lake-sourced utilities.
The CCR is informational; staff noted the report will be posted on the utility web page and printed copies will be available at city hall and the library.
