Port Washington staff presented the municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) annual report on June 10 and the Board of Public Works voted to accept the report.
Staff explained the city is permitted under the Department of Natural Resources’s NR 216 framework as an MS4 community and summarized education, monitoring, and maintenance work over the previous year. Activities highlighted included public education efforts with the Ozaukee (Zaukee) Watershed Coalition, painted inlet murals, annual monitoring of major outfalls and city-owned stormwater best management practices (BMPs), and inspections of construction sites larger than one acre.
Staff reported street sweeping removed about 189 tons of material and catch-basin cleaning totaled 13 tons; an MS4 program budget was noted at approximately $40,000 with about $20,000 in grant work last year and a $90,000 grant project continuing this year with $70,000 remaining to be spent. Staff also noted the Northeast Lakeshore TMDL will be reflected in the new permit and that the city is updating stormwater ordinances to comply; staff will wait for permit issuance before counting some practices for compliance.
Alderman Tierney moved to accept the MS4 annual report; Alderman Miller seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
