DeKalb — The City Council on June 9 approved a supplemental allocation to expand this fiscal year’s human-services funding from $225,000 to $300,000, directing staff to accelerate distribution to agencies providing essential housing, food and services for elderly and disabled residents.
City Manager said the additional $75,000 would be allocated using an accelerated process similar to the city’s earlier winter distribution; the proposal narrowed eligible categories to housing, food and care for elderly and disabled residents to address urgent needs.
Council approved the resolution to increase the allocation and asked staff to return with recommendations on grants and a plan to distribute funds, targeting action within about 30 days so agencies can get money quickly. The resolution passed by roll call vote.
Council members noted agencies have reported increased need and waiting lists for services such as Meals on Wheels. The City Manager said staff will present recommendations within 30 days and use an accelerated review to make awards.
