The Medina City Council Finance Committee approved the purchase of a 2025 rear-load sanitation truck for $255,114 using the HGACBuy cooperative purchasing program, with staff saying the contract price represents an estimated savings compared with typical quotes.
Mister Piccoli (committee member) introduced the item and vehicle maintenance and sanitation supervisors reviewed the specifications. A staff presenter said the price through HGACBuy was about $255,114, whereas recent quotes for similar rear-load trucks ran around $315,000, and that the selected unit’s hopper body used thicker steel intended to improve longevity.
Staff described the unit as a 25-cubic-yard, high-compaction rear-load vehicle. Committee members thanked staff for scrutinizing specifications and for utilizing the cooperative purchasing program; an emergency clause was requested and the committee approved the purchase.
The committee did not discuss financing details in depth at the meeting; staff said membership in HGACBuy had already produced savings for the city.
