A staff presenter said the price through HGACBuy was about $255,114, whereas recent quotes for similar rear-load trucks ran around $315,000, and that the selected unit’s hopper body used thicker steel intended to improve longevity.
Staff described the unit as a 25-cubic-yard, high-compaction rear-load vehicle. Committee members thanked staff for scrutinizing specifications and for utilizing the cooperative purchasing program; an emergency clause was requested and the committee approved the purchase.
The committee did not discuss financing details in depth at the meeting; staff said membership in HGACBuy had already produced savings for the city.
