The Medina City Council on June 9 approved an ordinance authorizing Medina City Schools to undertake renovations of the main locker rooms at the Medina Community Recreation Center. Parks and Recreation Director Worley described demolition and the installation of new tile flooring, shower and restroom partitions as the principal scope and estimated the cost at $150,000, to be paid by the rec center.
Worley said the project is intended to "improve aesthetics, cleanliness, and align with branding throughout the building." Worley also advised that locker rooms will be under construction from July 7 through Aug. 8; patrons may use the physical-education locker rooms connected to the pool during that period.
Councilman Shields announced he would abstain from the vote because the project involves his employer. The roll call on the ordinance showed the measure adopted; the record indicates Shields abstained and the ordinance passed. The ordinance authorizes the expenditure to Medina City Schools and directs the finance department to process the purchase order accordingly.
Next steps: Parks and Recreation will coordinate construction scheduling and patron notices; finance will process the approved purchase order.
