Judson ISD trustees begin shift from strategy planning to performance management

Judson ISD trustees met in a special session to begin moving the district from strategic planning into a performance-management approach that uses a balanced scorecard, regular “strategic roundtables” and recurring Plan-Do-Check-Act cycles.

Consultant Dr. Gibson led the discussion and told trustees the district was “at the end of the beginning” of its work, urging the board and cabinet to reduce variability across campuses while preserving autonomy. “If the decision making gets better the more these six traits are over to the right,” he said, referring to accessibility, accuracy, attitude, effectiveness, efficiency and timeliness, a set of quality traits the consultant summarized as “AAAEET.”

Why it matters: Trustees framed the session as a reset for a board with three new members and a new officer structure. They reviewed a calendar that would anchor three larger performance cycles each school year — beginning-of-year (October), mid-year (February) and end-of-year (June) — and agreed to use those cycles to check progress on district objectives rather than waiting for annual summative reports.
