Planning staff reports nearly 600 cases, strong finances; UDO rewrite targeted for next summer

Director Brooks told the Planning Commission on June 10, 2025, that planning staff and the commission reviewed almost 600 cases in fiscal year 2024–25, up from 524 the prior year, and that the agency is “in good financial condition.”

The summary matters because the commission’s caseload and the agency’s planned rewrite of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) will shape zoning, street standards and subdivision rules that govern development in the county.

Brooks said the commission reviewed nearly 600 applications this year and that every case category except plan amendments saw an increase from the previous fiscal year. She said a fuller development activity report will be presented next month by staff member Aubrey and hard copies will be provided to commissioners.
