City plans major IT upgrades and increases broadband maintenance funding

Victor, a city staff member, presented information-technology requests for the coming year, saying staff seeks approximately $153,000 in new operational funding for items such as a Dell server (about $90,000), an agenda-management system (about $50,000) and a new city website to meet standards.
Victor said major hardware purchases could be funded from IT reserves as capital investments while some costs are recurring operational expenses. "The major assets like the Dell and the computers are requested to be funded by the reserves in IT as a capital improvement," Victor said.
Ramiro, a GIS staff member, outlined requests for routing and asset-management licenses and tablets for field data collection. Ramiro said the city also plans to buy a total station (surveying equipment) to perform in-house design work and reduce consultant costs; Victor said the total-station purchase had been budgeted under streets at about $45,000.
In the broadband division, staff requested a roughly $91,000 increase for maintenance and to cover electricity and attachment fees on utility poles, and to explore a secondary service provider to improve resiliency. Victor said the city will set aside about $10,000 to cover electricity and that some IVTA/attachment fees have increased.
No formal council action was taken; staff said they would finalize numbers and funding sources in the revised budget.
