A representative of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) announced that Randall Pepper Elementary exited Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) status in 2024 and congratulated the school on its progress.
Theresa, a staff member at Randall Pepper Elementary, told SBCSS officials that the school had “several indicators that were in the red,” singling out “all students in math, all students in language arts” as drivers of the CSI designation. “To be truly honest, it is disheartening to hear that you're a CSI school,” she said, adding that exit from CSI reflects growth rather than a permanent status.
Theresa said county support helped school leaders understand CSI requirements and guided improvements. “The culture got stronger because we're becoming very strategic in our planning, strategic in our professional development, strategic in our staff meetings,” she said. She added, “Our mantra is that we believe in our students, and we believe that they are gonna read, and I believe that they have every opportunity in the world to be successful.”
An SBCSS representative said the county office wants to “support, collaborate, guide, and network to facilitate continuous improvement at all schools in the San Bernardino County,” and called Randall Pepper’s exit a success story county staff hope to replicate.
The remarks were a presentation and celebration of the school’s improvement; no formal board action or vote was recorded on the matter at this meeting.
