District staff explained the unit is about 17 years old and that a failing motherboard prevents the district from regulating temperatures in the library between the steam plant and the library wing. Staff described episodes in the library ranging from approximately 60 degrees to very hot, and said a number of diagnostic steps had been attempted, including thermostat changes and duct camera inspections.
Staff presented the replacement as timely because construction crews will have ceilings open while other renovation work is under way; completing the work now avoids repeat ceiling demolition. The motion to replace the controller passed by roll call.
The board recorded the motion and approved the expenditure; staff said the repair should extend useful life of the unit for several more years and improve temperature control in the building.
