Teacher and residents urge clearer guidance on responding to racist or offensive incidents in D303 classrooms

"My primary concern is the students who are left feeling further marginalized by these incidents," Fremling said, adding that the district should ensure teachers and administrators are prepared to "report and track these incidents."
Mary Mayer, a long-time district resident, expressed concern about declining proficiency rates and suggested reallocating funds previously spent on DEI work toward stronger subject-specific teacher training in reading, math and science. Mayer said instruction should "be inspiring, not dividing," and urged the board to prioritize teacher development that supports student competence and confidence.
Board members did not take immediate action during public comment; the speakers asked the board to include clearer expectations and training protocols on the district agenda as the board sets its goals for the coming year. The public-comment period was recorded and the board told speakers it would not respond during the meeting but would consider the remarks in future work.
